Reference management

When you write academic text, you must cite and refer to your sources correctly. This applies regardless of whether you are writing an essay or other scholarly texts.

Reference management software

To help you manage your references, there are several programs you can use. If you are a student or staff member at Lund University, you can use EndNote through the university’s license. Students download EndNote at Student Portal and employees via Software Center. You can also use a free reference tool, such as Zotero or Mendeley.

Referencing styles and LUSEM's policy

There are different systems for managing references and citations. When writing academic texts, it is important to use the system that is standard in your subject area.

LUSEM’s policy is that all students - except those studying Law - should use LUSEM’s Harvard Referencing Style. You can download this style to use in the reference management program EndNote. It is also available in the free programs Zotero and Mendeley - search for Lund University School of Economics and Management.

The department of Business Law

The Department of Business Law recommends the Oxford style - The Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA).

Workshop in EndNote

LUSEM Library offers workshops in EndNote for Phd-students and researchers.
