About the Centre for Economic Demography

The Centre for Economic Demography (CED) includes numerous researchers and scholars active in the fields of economic history, economics, social sciences, and medicine. Affiliated researchers focus on economic and social issues connected to demography, from modern as well as historic aspects, and with international comparative perspectives.

The Centre for Economic Demography (CED) is since 2018 administered by the Department of Economic History at the Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM). The Centre for Economic Demogrpahy has as goal to gather LU researchers with an interest in population issues and to foster research collaborations within the field of population science. All interested population researchers at Lund University are welcome to become affiliates. 

The board and director are appointed by the Dean of LUSEM after consultation with the Dean of the Social Sciences Faculty. CED is now a network centre with a continued grant from the two faculties. It organises seminars and special events. 

The Centre for Economic Demography (CED) holds responsibility for management and support of two major register-based compliations/databases:

History

Between 2006 and 2016, the CED was a Linnaeus Centre of Excellence funded by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) and Lund University. During this period, CED also managed a research school that trained new talented scholars in the area of economic demography.

Up until 2017, CED was an independent unit at the Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM). Since 2018, CED is administered by the Department of Economic History at LUSEM.
