LUSEM Mentorship programme
The LUSEM Mentorship programme lets students connect with experienced professionals. The programme helps students learn valuable skills, grow their network, and understand the working world better. Through mentoring, we bridge the gap between our alumni and current LUSEM students, creating valuable connections.
The Mentorship programme – for mentors
The mentorship programme enables alumni to share their professional and personal experience and expertise with current LUSEM graduate students. As an alumni mentor, you have the opportunity to share your expertise and experience to inspire LUSEM students as they embark on their career journeys.
Why become a mentor?
Mentoring can be an incredibly rewarding learning experience for everyone involved. By becoming a mentor, you will have the opportunity to:
- Share your experiences, professional wisdom and talents with future leaders
- Attend mentor training and networking events
- Contribute to the success of your alma mater
- Help graduates build their professional network
- Reflect on your own career whilst inspiring the minds of aspiring young individuals.
Programme structure
The application period for mentors starts in May and the programme begins in November. Mentors are matched with current master's degree students at LUSEM. The mentorship spans over two semesters. After the kickoff session in autumn, the mentor and mentee set their own meeting schedule and it is recommended to meet up once a month, in-person or digitally. During the mentorship, mentors and mentees will also be invited to networking sessions and get access to other resources that will assist in making the mentorship a success.
Mentor responsibilities
- Guidance and support: Offer professional and personal guidance to your mentee.
- Goal setting: Help your mentee set realistic and achievable goals.
- Resource sharing: Share knowledge, resources, and networking opportunities.
- Feedback: Provide constructive feedback on your mentee’s progress.
- Confidentiality: Keep all discussions private.
- Commitment: Commit to regular meetings and decide if you will be available for ad-hoc consultations.

It's an opportunity for current students to receive personalised guidance, advice, and support from successful alumni who have walked the same halls and faced similar challenges.

Programme structure
The mentorship spans two semesters and is open to all master’s students and final year students in the bachelor’s programmes in International Business and Economy and Society at LUSEM.
Please note, if you are a student in the Entrepreneurship and Innovation programme, you apply for your programme specific mentor programme (not the LUSEM Mentorship programme).
Mentors and mentees set their own meeting schedule; monthly meetings are recommended. In addition to one-on-one meetings, you’ll be invited to networking events and gain access to resources that support a successful mentorship experience. In some cases, a mentor may be connected to more than one student.

- Take initiative in scheduling meetings and setting agendas.
- Come prepared with questions and topics to discuss.

- Act on feedback and keep your mentor updated on your progress.
- Show appreciation for your mentor’s time and support.
What to expect from your mentor
Your mentor will:
- Share insights and experiences from their professional journey.
- Offer guidance and constructive feedback.
- Encourage your development and help you reflect on your goals.
- Be available for regular meetings and questions.
How to apply
Applications open in early September and are submitted via a dedicated form. A link to the application form will be sent by email and will also be available on the Career Services on Canvas.
LUSEM Career Services on Canvas
In the application, you will be asked to describe your education, career interests, and what you hope to gain from the mentorship. Matching is done to ensure alignment between mentee goals and mentor experience. We also take yours and the mentors’ education into consideration in the matching process.
Please note, while we consider your preferences during the matching process, we cannot guarantee that all of them will be met. Additionally, due to the high demand for mentors, we cannot guarantee that all student applicants will be paired with a mentor.
