The Pan-European Seal Young Professionals Programme offers graduates the opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job experience in the multicultural environment of two of the world’s largest IP offices. Degree students at LUSEM can apply for a paid 12-months period traineeship at
- The European Patent Office (EPO) in Munich, Germany or at
- The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante, Spain.
More than 1300 trainees have been welcomed by the EUIPO and the EPO since the inception of the programme. The traineeship allows you to gain valuable professional multicultural work experience and offers a variety of professional placements depending on the profile of the applicant. The internship is offered within the Pan-European Seal, a comprehensive intellectual property programme aimed at bridging academia and the labour market and promoted by two of the world’s largest intellectual property offices – the EUIPO and EPO – together with strategic university partners.

EUIPO application process
The two-step application process
Step 1: Send your application to your own university (LUSEM) for internal shortlisting.
Step 2: Shortlisted candidates send their application to EPO/EUIPO.
Deadline: Send your application to jonas [dot] ledendal [at] har [dot] lu [dot] se by 24 February 2026.
Shortlisting
For shortlisting you will have to submit your current CV (in Europass format), motivation letter (also stating which institution you are applying to), transcript of records from your current study programme, and documents proving that you meet all the requirements listed below.
EPO application process
Candidates applying to EPO Pan-European Seal Young Professionals Programme does not need to be shortlisted by their university. Application period is open between 16 February to 09 March 2026. You send your application directly to EPO.

Requirements for EUIPO and EPO applicants
- National from an EUIPO and/or EPO member state. (A limited number of trainees may be selected from third countries for the EUIPO).
- Degree/Master in any of the eligible academic areas.
- Excellent knowledge of at least one of the five working languages of the EUIPO (DE, EN, FR, IT, or ES) or one of the three working languages of the EPO (EN, FR or DE).
Before submitting their oline application shortlisted EUIPO candidates must have completed at least the required online OALP/EPO e-Learning courses with certificate: (1) EUTM in a Nutshell and/or (2) RCD in a Nutshell (when applying to EUIPO).
If at the time of application you have not yet received the required degree diploma, please include a certified certificate of expected graduation that you can receive from your programme administrator.
Candidates can only apply to one of the institutions (EPO or EUIPO).
