Department of Economics
The Department of Economics offers a wide range of master courses in all subjects in Economics. Courses can be studied within a master programme, or they can be studied as free-standing courses. At the master level you can study courses within all major disciplines in Economics such as Econometrics, Finance, International Economics and Development Economics, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics and Public Economics with Health- and Labour Economics.
An education at the Department of Economics provides you with deepened and thorough knowledge of modern economic theories, concepts and techniques and their applications. You will acquire the necessary tools to undertake advanced economic analysis and gain specialised knowledge in your specific field of interest. You will also become familiar with major and recent literature in your particular field of specialisation and learn important research techniques.
Master programmes at the Department of Economics
The Department of Economics offers one programme in Economics, one specialized programme in Financial economics and one programme in Data Analytics. A successfully completed Bachelor's degree equivalent to a Swedish Bachelor's degree is a basic requirement for all programmes and for each programme there are additional specific requirements.
Application period for the academic year 2025/2026: 15th of October - 15th of January.

The Department of Economics offers a wide range of master courses in all subjects in Economics. Courses can be studied within a master programme, or they can be studied as free-standing courses. All courses are 7.5 ECTS credits each (except for the essays and one additional course), and for full-time studies one takes four courses during one term and one studies two courses each period within each term. The programme provides you with deepened and thorough knowledge of modern economic theories, concepts and techniques and their applications. You will acquire the necessary tools to undertake advanced economic analysis and gain specialised knowledge in your specific field of interest. You will also become familiar with major and recent literature in your particular field of specialisation and learn important research techniques.
The programme is designed to give students a sound knowledge in the basic methods of advanced economics, allow them to specialise in a specific area of interest and enable them to apply their knowledge to analyse real world problems. The programme commences with an obligatory first term including courses in Mathematics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics. After the first term you can choose courses from different specialisations. There is no requirement of following a specific profile (that is, one can take specialisation courses from different profiles), but it is highly recommended. A designated profile will give you a specialised area in Economics and by following one of the recommended structures you will also be well prepared for the master essay.

Econometrics
The Econometrics Profile of the Master programme in Economics is aimed at providing specialised competence in econometric methods. It is especially suitable for students who wish to work with advanced empirical analysis and forecasting. It is also an excellent preparation for those aiming at PhD studies in econometrics or in economics with a specialisation in econometrics.

The programme is designed to give students a sound knowledge in the basic methods of advanced finance and enable you to apply your knowledge to analyse real world problems.
The programme is divided into two terms, which consist in total of four study periods. In the first term, focus is primarily on advancing students’ knowledge of the theory of finance and econometric techniques used in financial research. In the second study period, students follow two courses that further advance and specialise their knowledge of the theory of finance and financial econometrics.
In the second term, focus is instead shifted more towards application and problem solving. The second term ends with a degree project in finance in the fourth study period.

The programme aims to train students in understanding the role of data analytics in the digital economy in general, and in particular how organisations can utilize the increasing availability of “big data” to their advantage by making better-informed decisions. Students will learn programming and data management, how to use statistical machine learning tools in order to explore and deduct patterns from data, and how to incorporate the results obtained into strategic decision making.
This one-year Master’s degree comprises of 60 ECTS credits. The year is divided into two 30 ECTS credits terms.
