Workshop: What is COIL?

This is the first out of two workshops about COIL. Both are given by Dr. Carol Cirulli Lanham is the COIL Coordinator at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Since business and economics extend across borders, our classrooms should too. Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) connects students from different countries to collaborate online on curriculum-based projects. Known as internationalization at home, COIL offers an accessible, sustainable, and meaningful way to bring international perspectives into the student learning experience.
During the workshop, faculty and staff will:
- Learn how COIL works and how it can align with course learning goals
- Hear examples of successful projects from around the world
- Begin mapping out potential collaborations for 2025 and beyond
Who should attend?
This session is designed for LUSEM faculty and educational staff who:
- Teach units with an international, intercultural, or cross-disciplinary component
- Are exploring new ways to enhance student engagement and global competence
- Are interested in course revision, innovation, or aligning with internationalisation goals
Whether you are new to COIL or looking to learn more about this pedagogy, this session provides the foundation to further internationalize your curriculum from your own classroom.
Please note that a second workshop on COIL How can I implement COIL? will be held on 18 June. It also ties in with this one – read more and register on our website.
