Lund University and Alfa Laval have entered a new strategic partnership aimed at strengthening collaboration, driving innovation, and addressing global challenges in sustainability, digitalisation, and energy transition.

The agreement formalises a long-standing relationship between the company and several of Lund University’s faculties – including Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM) and the Faculty of Engineering (LTH) – and brings these collaborations together under one structured framework.

“This partnership captures the essence of what universities and industry can achieve together: combining academic rigour with real-world relevance. By bringing together diverse disciplines and perspectives, we will accelerate innovation and competitiveness and contribute to a sustainable future,” says Joakim Gullstrand, Dean of LUSEM.

The collaboration builds on the Triple Helix model, where industry, academia, and the public sector work together to strengthen strategic capabilities and lifelong learning on both local and global levels. The partnership will involve all faculties at Lund University and include initiatives such as master’s theses, climate action hackathons, and mini-credential programmes.

Deep-rooted collaboration

Lund University’s Vice-Chancellor Erik Renström highlights the importance of the partnership for meeting future challenges:

“Our collaboration with Alfa Laval is deep-rooted and has a long history. We are now laying the foundations to work together even more quickly to meet the needs of the future.”

From Alfa Laval’s side, the partnership is seen as a key part of their efforts to accelerate the global transition towards sustainability.

“By collaborating and viewing global challenges through a joint lens, Alfa Laval and Lund University will strengthen the important interface between academic research and industry application – ensuring that groundbreaking discoveries can be rapidly adapted to meet real-world needs,” says Tom Erixon, CEO and President of Alfa Laval.

Dedicated resources from both partners and a shared governance model will ensure transparency, accountability, and long-term impact.
