Thirty-nine new members are elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, and Tommy Andersson, Professor of Economics at LUSEM, will now be one of them.

With approximately 1,300 academy members and 250 member companies, IVA (the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences) is an independent expert body that, based on scientific grounds, drives debate on societal issues concerning economics, technology, and related fields. They contribute through writing reports, policy proposals, and producing evidence-based background materials, among other things.

Tommy Andersson, who is a Professor of Economics and was recently named "Teacher of the Year" at the Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM), has authored the books Algoritmmakaren (The Algorithm Maker) and Demokratiparadoxen (The Democracy Paradox). He is also an Affiliated Professor at the Stockholm School of Economics. Tommy's research focuses on how decision-making algorithms can be used to improve systems such as upper secondary school placement, organ transplants, or residence permits for migrants. He is also a member of the Committee for the Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.

"I am delighted to be elected as a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. It is a strong voice in society that brings together many wise, knowledgeable, and committed people, and I feel honored to be included. For my own part, I hope to contribute with my knowledge of systematic and algorithmic decision-making. It can help make society better, more efficient, and fairer," says Tommy Andersson.

From the School of Economics and Management, we are proud and happy about IVA's choice and wish to express our warmest congratulations to Tommy.
