Sigrid Hemels is Professor of Tax Law at Erasmus School of Law (Erasmus University, Rotterdam). She is internationally well known and has been involved with LUSEM since 2018, first as a visiting professor and since 2022 as an adjunct professor.

Sigrid Hemels is highly appreciated by both colleagues and students at the Department of Commercial and Business Law at LUSEM and has made many important contributions to both research and education. In addition to lecturing, supervising, and examining students in Lund, she has also learned Swedish and continues to take language courses in order to be able to participate fully in academic life here.

In her home country, she has been appointed by the King of the Netherlands as a permanent member of the advisory division of the Dutch Council of State (Raad van State), which advises the government and parliament. In addition, she serves as a member of numerous academic and scientific councils at universities and research institutes in several other European countries.

“Through her regular stays at the Department of Business Law, Sigrid Hemels is an important and highly active participant in our research environment, and we are very proud and pleased to appoint her as an honorary doctor,” says Niklas Arvidsson, Professor of Business Law at LUSEM.
