"Lund University’s Programme for Global Excellence lets us bring world-leading scholars into the daily life of LUSEM. They add fresh momentum to our research, catalyse new international collaborations, and enrich our learning environment for students and colleagues alike.
Because each of them already has an established connection to LUSEM, we can turn that connection into a tangible impact from day one", says LUSEM Dean Joakim Gullstrand.
At LUSEM, we are currently joined by:
Iuliana Ionita-Laza – Columbia University (USA)
“I have already spent two years as a visiting professor in the Department of Statistics at LUSEM, which has been an extremely positive experience, and I have secured a four-year grant from the Swedish Research Council to further develop my research within the department.
I am interested in leveraging large-scale biobanks with rich genomic and phenotypic data to develop novel, computationally efficient statistical methods that go beyond the current state of the art to effectively extract information from these massive datasets.
I am also interested in applications in neuroscience and hope to further expand my collaborations in this area with researchers at Lund”, says Iuliana Ionita-Laza.
Jørgen Modalsli – Oslo Business School, Oslo Metropolitan University (Norway)
“Lund University hosts one of the world's largest research environments in economic history and economic demography.
I have had the pleasure of visiting several times and know many of Lund's faculty in the economic history department as leading researchers in their field.
I hope to contribute to the research already being done by the great group in Lund, to learn more about key differences and similarities between the Swedish and Norwegian paths of development, to improve measurement of economic outcomes and trends over time, and to come up with new research ideas in the economics of long-run inequality, intergenerational mobility, and economic development”, says Jørgen Modalsli.
Francisco Liñán – Universidad de Sevilla (Spain)
“I maintain close contact with several researchers at the Sten K. Johnson Centre for Entrepreneurship through our mutual participation in the European University Network on Entrepreneurship (ESU).
My focus while in Lund will be on collaborating with my colleagues in Lund to support the development of their ongoing projects.
I would particularly like to explore the possibility of adapting our current research to the Swedish context. This would provide a comparative perspective on the entrepreneurial process and its contextual influencing factors, adding considerable value to our existing research”, says Francisco Liñán.
J. David Hacker – University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (USA)
“In 2010, I was lucky enough to be able to visit Lund University on a sabbatical and began several collaborations.
If possible, Lund University has become an even more attractive place to visit than before. New faculty, researchers, and graduate students have made Lund University the single-best location in the world to study historical demography.
One project that I am very excited about is already in an initial descriptive phase: I am working with Jonas Helgertz to estimate child mortality and fertility among hundreds of millions of individuals using our new linked IPUMS datasets. We anticipate using these estimates to explore the factors associated with the demographic transition in more detail than ever possible”, says J.David Hacker.
Through the Lund Global Visiting Professors’ Programme, these scholars contribute with new perspectives, research excellence, and international networks that strengthen our academic environment.
We are delighted to welcome them to LUSEM and look forward to the collaborations ahead.
