Strategy, mission and vision

LUSEM Strategy 2026–2030

As part of Lund University and the global academic community, the Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM) proudly upholds core values of democracy, academic freedom, sustainability, and inclusivity.

LUSEM’s overarching objective is to deliver the highest-quality education and research, deeply rooted in these core values, that positively impacts society and empowers students to be responsible decision-makers and reflective practioners with a global mindset. Building on Lund University’s long tradition, international reputation as a centre of knowledge, learning, and culture, and the Magna Charta Universitatum, LUSEM commits itself to openness, integrity, and collective engagement in addressing global challenges, thereby transforming the international role of business schools.

At the heart of our approach lies the unifying ethos of Together, driving collaboration across disciplines, geographies, and societal sectors. This spirit of collegiality, inclusivity, and shared purpose enables a balanced excellence in education, research, and external engagement. Together highlights students' active participation in our academic community and embodies our embeddedness within Lund University, enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration and connections with industry, alumni, and global partners. Our action-oriented and progressive approach ensures continuous innovation and responsiveness to emerging challenges.

Together, we make a difference.

Mission

We are more than a business school, we are globally engaged and regionally rooted, and we are commited to balanced and impactful excellence in research, education, and external engagement.

Vision

LUSEM aspires to further strengthen its position as an internationally recognised institution by working Together to transform education, advance knowledge, and build innovative collaborations that improve our world and the human condition.

Core activities

At LUSEM, our core activities—education, research, and external engagement—are deeply interconnected. Together, these activities reinforce our role as a dynamic force in academia and society, ensuring that our knowledge creation, education, and collaboration drive meaningful impact.

From strategy to action

To turn strategy into action, LUSEM works through three roadmaps linked to the School’s core activities. These roadmap areas help guide priorities, development, and follow-up across the School. The more detailed roadmaps are used internally as living documents and are updated as LUSEM develops.

LUSEM provides transformative, research-based education that fosters responsible decision-makers and reflective practitioners with a global mindset. This is achieved by enhancing student learning and employability through experiential learning, creative teaching, and increased practitioner engagement.

Roadmap – Education Transforms

We strengthen learning, employability, and responsible decision-making through research-based education, pedagogical development, and stronger links to practice.

LUSEM advances knowledge, delivering meaningful and practical impacts by effectively addressing societal challenges. This is achieved by strengthening research excellence and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to tackle global issues.

Roadmap – Research Advances Knowledge

We promote research excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and impactful knowledge creation that helps address societal challenges.

LUSEM actively develops meaningful partnerships beyond academia to ensure relevance and societal benefit. This is achieved by deepening strategic collaborations, enhancing innovation, and maximising societal impact.

Roadmap – External Engagement Builds Impact

We deepen collaboration with industry, alumni, policymakers, and communities to strengthen relevance, innovation, and societal benefit.

Core principles

To effectively achieve our goals and address evolving global challenges, LUSEM’s activities are guided by four core principles reflecting our forward-looking vision.

We foster creativity, adaptability, and a global perspective in all our activities. By nurturing innovation and creativity, LUSEM remains at the forefront of education and research, preparing students and faculty to thrive in an interconnected world.

We actively adapt to technological advancements, emerging societal trends, and evolving stakeholder needs to ensure continuous relevance and impact.

We integrate sustainability and ethical considerations comprehensively into our research, education, and external engagement, ensuring responsible and conscientious outcomes.

Together, we promote collaboration, integrity, and a strong academic community, engaging students, faculty, industry, and society to collectively advance knowledge and drive meaningful impact.

Cross-Cutting Enablers

Cross-cutting enablers are shared priorities that underpin LUSEM’s strategy. Embedded across education, research and external engagement, they strengthen quality, relevance and impact by shaping how LUSEM operates, collaborates and develops over time.

Purpose

Internationalisation at LUSEM is a way of operating, not a separate activity. It strengthens education, research, and engagement by connecting people, ideas, and institutions globally. In addition, it enhances relevance, student employability, quality, and resilience while aligning with Lund University’s overarching goals for global engagement.

Purpose

Ensure that sustainability and ethical reflection are integrated into everything LUSEM does (education, research, external engagement, people and culture, and operations) so that the School contributes to responsible societal development and aligns with Lund University’s sustainability commitments.

Purpose

To enable high-quality education, research, and external engagement at LUSEM through responsible and effective use of digital tools, artificial intelligence, and data.

The aim is to build a digitally and data-confident School where students, staff, and leaders can adapt, analyse, and act with agility, supported by clear governance and shared standards.

Purpose

Enable students and alumni to thrive over a lifetime by integrating real-world learning, ethical practice, and adaptive skills, delivered through programmes, Future Hubs @LUSEM, and partnerships across the regional, national, and international ecosystem.

Purpose

Build a transparent, collegial, and internationally attractive environment that integrates colleagues’ contributions across research, education, and external engagement, supported by modern facilities and clear career pathways, to deliver balanced excellence and a work environment grounded in our ethos Together.

Quality System at LUSEM

LUSEM’s Quality System form the foundation of the School’s commitment to continuous improvement in education. Together, they ensure that our programmes deliver meaningful learning, align with strategic goals, and respond to both internal and external quality expectations.

The system connects LUSEM’s strategic ambitions with its daily educational practice, ensuring that learning outcomes are clear, assessed, and improved in a structured and collegial way. It supports the development of a learning-centred culture—one that enhances pedagogical innovation, student engagement, and evidence-based decision-making.

The quality framework also enables LUSEM to meet the requirements of Lund University’s quality assurance system, the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ), and international accreditations (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA).
