Greening the economy – Degrowth or green growth?
Growth and consumption have become symbols of prosperity, but how does that rhyme with the urgent need to reduce the use of fossil fuels? During the 21st century, voices for degrowth have been raised. But what is feasible within the current democratic and economic systems? Can we have welfare without growth? Is a green market economy possible – with tariffs, digital growth, and green tech?

Speakers
Andreas Bergh, Associate Professor in Economics. He is also a liberal writer, researching the emergence of the Swedish welfare state, growth-enhancing reforms, and the polarisation between urban and rural areas.
Alexander Paulsson, Associate Professor of Business Administration. He conducts research on alternative currencies among other topics. Alexander advocates for a greater focus on degrowth.
The event is part of the Sustainability Week in Lund, a week-long series of research-based events by Lund University and the City of Lund.
