You are about to defend your thesis “A Dynamic Capabilities Approach to Sustainable Business Model Innovation”. In short, what is your thesis (doctoral dissertation) about?
“My thesis in a nutshell focuses on which capabilities firms need to innovate their business models in response to sustainability. I use a business model innovation framework combined with a dynamic capabilities perspective to identify sensing, seizing, and transforming capabilities to navigate the change brought onto the firms by sustainability pressures. The study presents a comparative case study of two large Swedish architecture firms and empirically contributes to how firms can meet their increasing commitments to deliver societal value alongside financial gains.”
In three words, how would you describe your years as a doctoral student at LUSEM?
- Intense
- Fulfilling
- Discovery (both self and academic!)
What are you up to now?
“I am working as a management consultant in Stockholm, but use a lot of the skills which I developed during my time as a PhD student. The analytical skills, such as critically analysing data, identifying patterns, and drawing evidence-based conclusions, as well as the problem-solving skills, such as breaking down complex problems into smaller components and developing innovative solutions, are but some examples of this. I do, however, look forward to holding close ties with Lund University, where I spent these unforgettable years!”
Thank you, Markus! Wishing you all the best!
