Economics
Late spring is a hectic but gratifying time of the year. Among the most distinctive sources of pride for the department are the PhD graduations. This year we have had three defences within the last month, Negar Khaliliaraghi with her thesis Essays on Gender, Housing, and Peers, Kajsa Ganhammar with her thesis Essays on Policy and Market Imperfections in Electricity and Auction Markets, and Prakriti Thami with her thesis Design, Incentives, and Outcomes: Essays on Allocation Under Constraints. The titles illustrate the breadth of ground covered by the department and the strength of our PhD program.

It has been a busy and rewarding semester for Economic History. We celebrated five successful doctoral defenses and saw several PhD students present their research at final seminars. We are currently in the process of hiring four new doctoral students. Our external collaborations have also expanded, including a commissioned education initiative with the African Union. Additionally, we launched our first ERC project, and we are excited to see new research ideas take shape in the coming semester.

The spring semester has been productive, challenging, exciting and rewarding from many perspectives. I would like to express the department's pride in our students and their achievements during the semester - well done! The spring has also been characterized by recruitment and strategic initiatives, intensified publication rate and applications for external funds that we are convinced will yield many positive results in the fall. Finally, I would like to thank all colleagues at the department and especially the teaching team who have made an amazing effort during the semester - you inspire all of us.
