You are about to defend your thesis, what is it about?
I studied the impacts of boom-bust cycle of the mining industry on local communities. More specifically, I look at the effects of mine closures on workers, municipal fiscality and community resilience. I also take a longue durée perspective on the political economy of the industry in Canada as I published a new historical database in Scientific Data, Nature and a history of the mining industry since the 1850s in New Political Economy.
In three words, how would you describe your years as a PhD student at LUSEM?
boom-bust-boom!
What are you up to now?
I have a few research projects in the pipeline working on social provisioning, sustainable innovations and industrial political economy. This will take me a step further in understanding just and green industrial transition.
Thank you Clara and we wish you many booms in the future!
