"Anxiety or worries about cheating made us lose valuable time in the implementation of AI at the University, but AI is here to stay and we simply have to adapt," says Burak Tunca.
He explains that the teachers know that students already use AI, but uncertainties linger about how they use it. He hopes to develop courses where AI usage figures as a valuation criterium among the others, but he recognizes that as teachers we have a lot of work ahead of us. Students need to be prepared to become leaders in an AI-driven world and for that to happen they can’t just be left to their own devices.
In his new role, Burak will begin by conducting an inventory of the department’s current AI initiatives and assessing ongoing efforts. He will also conduct seminars and workshops for teachers. Following this, he will formulate a comprehensive AI integration strategy. As part of this strategy, students can expect to see changes in their curriculum starting in the spring of 2025, especially within subjects such as marketing, finance and accounting.
A significant challenge ahead involves securing premium versions of AI tools such as Chat GPT for student use. This access is crucial for providing hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology.
"AI is becoming faster, smarter, and cheaper, and I see a good possibility of developing AI courses in Marketing among other fields," Burak Tunca remarks.
On a finishing note he adds "I think it's important and I am very happy that management supports and believes in the work I am about to start, and of course, that we have an optimistic approach to the technology.”
