The Swedish Academy of Auditors (SRA) works to promote knowledge development and the advancement of expertise in accounting and auditing, and annually awards a prize of SEK 75,000 to a university or college teacher who has made exceptional contributions.
Niklas Sandell has extensive experience teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as within executive education. He has also authored several important textbooks in accounting. The jury particularly highlighted his contribution to advancing accounting education at many Swedish universities and higher education institutions.
From the SRA’s motivation:
“Niklas combines pedagogy, practice, and research in a way that creates a strong and cohesive educational experience. He continuously develops his teaching methods with a clear foundation both in accounting practice and in current research.”
Congratulations, Niklas — how does it feel to receive such recognition?
“It is a great honor to receive the Academy of Auditors Pedagogical Award. I am especially happy and grateful for the thoughtful and appreciative motivation,” says Niklas.
Accounting and auditing are often mentioned as fields that may be at risk as AI becomes increasingly prominent. How do you view the future?
“I do not believe that AI will reduce the need to hire newly graduated economists in the accounting and auditing sectors in the short term. When certain tasks disappear, resources tend instead to be reallocated to new areas. At the same time, there is some reason for concern. If work tasks through which people previously built fundamental competence are replaced by AI, there is a risk that knowledge gaps may emerge over time, since opportunities to learn from the ground up may diminish,” reflects Niklas Sandell.
