One visit was enough: why Liza chose LUSEM

Choosing what to study can feel overwhelming – especially if you are not sure exactly what you want to do in the future. For Liza, student in the International Business programme at Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM), the decision became clear after learning more about Lund and visiting the city.

Liza's first introduction to Lund University came through her father.

“It was my father’s business partners whose children were studying in Lund who first recommended the university to me because of the high quality of education,” she says. “Then I started reading more about Lund and LUSEM and looked at social media, where I saw the beautiful surroundings and the vibrant student life.”

Curious to see it for herself, Liza visited Lund about a year and a half before applying.

“After that trip, I was quite certain that I wanted to study here and that International Business was the right programme for me,” she says.

Between her visit and submitting her application, she also reached out to the programme coordinator.

“The programme coordinator was very helpful and answered all my questions. That made me feel secure about my choice and about the whole application process.”

A combination of education quality and student life

For Liza, both academic quality and the student experience were important factors when choosing a university.

“The combination of high-quality education and student life really stood out to me,” she says. “Lund University is highly ranked and LUSEM has triple accreditation, which is a strong quality mark for both my education and my future career.”

The international environment at LUSEM was another important aspect.

“I really appreciate studying with peers from around the world. There are also opportunities to study abroad, which is great if you are interested in the international aspects of business and learning about different cultures.”

A programme that keeps options open

Although Liza is interested in business, she does not yet have a specific job title in mind – something she believes many students can relate to.

“I’m not exactly sure what I want to do in the future,” she says. “But I know I’m very interested in business, especially how companies work across different countries, cultures and markets. I would also like to start my own business one day.”

For her, the International Business programme offers both flexibility and inspiration.

“The programme gives me a broad understanding of business and opens many doors. Through courses, company visits and networking events, I have discovered career paths I hadn’t even considered before.”

And beyond the classroom, student life is just as important.

“The student life here is excellent – there are so many different things to do depending on what you’re interested in,” she says. “I’m especially excited to experience LundaKarnevalen in May, which is a huge event organised by students every four years.”

Advice for future students

For those who are currently trying to decide where and what to study, Liza has some simple advice:

“Think about what matters to you – both academically and socially. Read about the universities and programmes you’re interested in, use social media to get a feeling for them and, if possible, attend events where you can meet students and teachers.”

And if you are unsure about your future career?

“Choose a subject you are interested in and a programme that gives you broad knowledge and many opportunities. That way, you keep your options open for the future.”
