New Professor in Statistics at LUSEM

Finn Lindgren

Finn Lindgren, professor and chair of statistics in the School of Mathematics and Maxwell Institute of Mathematical Sciences at the The University of Edinburgh, Scotland, returns to his hometown and Alma Mater as the new professor in statistics at LUSEM.

"We are honored to have such an accomplished scholar join our ranks. Finn will join us on 1 September, and we look forward to welcoming him warmly", says Krzysztof Podgorski, professor and head of the department of statistics at LUSEM.

Finn Lindgren, who actually grew up in Lund and did his PhD studies here, will be strengthening the statistics department's research with a focus on data science. His work has been used in environmental and climate research, and in Edinburgh, he was instrumental in the expansion of the field of statistics.

His impact on environmental statistics is also mentioned in the motivation for this year's  Royal Statistical Society Barnett Award, which he will receive in September.

Finn Lindgren's appointment follows a long and thorough process and was just recently approved by the Vice-Chancellor of Lund University.

Welcome back to Lund!
