Study Economics

The Department of Economics offers courses at all educational levels. From courses at the basic level, to courses at the intermediate level, the advanced level and the PhD level. The research at the Department is extensive and covers many areas, which is reflected in a broad selection of courses.

Career opportunities

There is a broad and extensive labour market for economists both nationally and internationally. The demand for the competence of economists with a master degree is relatively constant over time or even growing. You will be qualified for advanced positions within the private and public sectors. Graduates find employment in government authorities and public institutions, in large companies, in the financial sector, in private research centres, in the health sector and in a large number of international institutions such as central banks, government departments, OECD, EU, The World Bank, development agencies, economics consultants, financial organisations, international corporations etc. Economics uses facts and logic to increase our understanding of a wide variety of social issues such as, for example:

  • Globalisation
  • Economic growth
  • Income distribution
  • Competition policy
  • The role of the state in the economy
  • Unemployment, poverty
  • The role of financial markets

Economists work in the private sector, central government agencies, local government agencies, branch- and employer organisations, trade union confederations, massmedia, and in international organisations such as the EU, IMF, UN OECD and the World Bank. The Department of Economics offers a broad selection of courses by active researchers from the basic to the doctoral level.

See below for organisations, authorities, and companies, where previous students have found an employment after their studies at the Department of Economics (many students also continue with PhD studies in Lund, Sweden or elsewhere). The list contains both first and later employers.
