Joakim Westerlund
Programme director, professor
Joakim Westerlund is professor of Economics and is mainly working with panel data, which is one type of “big data”. He develops econometric methods for studying such data, which typically involve machine learning. Joakim has published over 100 articles in this field and has received numerous awards for his contributions.

Simon Reese
Assistant programme director, senior lecturer
Simon Reese is associate senior lecturer of Economics and works on methods for dimension reduction as well as high-dimensional problems in panel data econometrics. He is interested in developing machine learning methods for the methodological toolbox of empirical economists.

Jonas Wallin
Assistant programme director, senior lecturer
Jonas Wallin is senior lecturer of Statistics. His main research areas are modelling of spatial and spatio-temporal data for big data; algorithms for regularization, stochastic model fitting and Bayesian statistics; and model selection. He has worked with applications in epidemiology, biology, climate modeling, and personal medicine.
