Pedagogical week at LUSEM

Students working at a table

An event packed week with inspiration, tips, and discussions about teaching. Thank you to all who participated or helped organize the activities.

The week kicked off with Professor Katarina Mårtensson, who gave an introduction to how we could develop teaching skills through open classroom observations.

“My biggest takeaway was the potential we have to strengthen our teaching together by fostering collegiality and trust in our discussions about teaching,” said Joakim Gullstrand, Dean at LUSEM.

One session was held at the Theatre Academy in Malmö and focused on presentation techniques and the Morning talk on Thursday showcased several of our award winning teachers: Senior lecturer Nadja Sörgärde, Senior lecturer Amanda Sonnerfeldt, Lecturer Björn Svensson and Senior lecturer Pontus Hansson, part taking in a discussion on best practices, moderated by Ulrika Wennersten, Vice Dean Education at LUSEM and the initiator of LUSEM's first pedagogical week

Professor Stefan Sveningsson and Associate professor Maria Persson discussed their experiences and the potential of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). It comes across as a very engaging and cost effective way of connecting students in different parts of the world when for instance working on joint projects.

In a seminar about shared reading and shared viewing Lecturer Katarina Bernhardsson and Senior Consultant Physician Pia Dellson, presented how these methods could be used to enhance teaching. Both focus on interactive learning, encourage peer engagement, and promote deeper understanding through discussion and shared perspectives.

A fun and different case simulation was led digitally by Jonatan Castro, from Harvard Business Publishing Education. In the case the participants assumed the roles of high ranking advisors to the government of a fictional country, facing the outbreak of a zombie pandemic.

“With LUSEM's first pedagogical week in the books, I can confidently say that it has successfully fulfilled its mission of highlighting key pedagogical issues. The week has underscored the importance of transformative, excellent education through conscious pedagogical methods. Participants have explored innovative teaching approaches, shared best practices, and engaged in collaborative discussions, all aimed at strengthening our collective mission to provide education that makes a meaningful impact and contributes to a better society”, says Ulrika Wennersten.
