What comes after Agenda 2030? On 13 October, doctoral students from across Lund University will meet to discuss this and other questions about sustainability at the PhD Conference on Sustainable Development.

This year’s theme is Beyond Agenda 2030, with a focus on sustainable development beyond current timelines, disciplinary boundaries and policy frameworks. The keynote will explore this theme more specifically. Johannes Stripple, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science, will speak on “Environmental Politics After the Future: From Earth System Governmentality and Agenda 2030 to BiberAmt”.

The programme includes sessions on sustainability from different perspectives. One workshop will take participants to the year 2050, where they will work in interdisciplinary groups to develop principles for a fictional “Lund Charter for Sustainable Futures”.

Other sessions include discussions on the post-2030 development agenda, the material aspects of sustainable transitions, international development cooperation, disability inclusion and sustainability, as well as paper and poster presentations.

“The conference is an opportunity for doctoral students to meet across disciplines, exchange ideas and develop new collaborations. We also want to create space for thinking beyond the established frameworks,” says Markus Gunneflo, coordinator of the Agenda 2030 Graduate School.

The conference is free of charge and takes place at Geocentrum in Lund. It is open to PhD students at Lund University, as well as master’s students and PhD students from other universities while places are available.
