Meetingpoint Ljusgården – Misbehaviour in the Shared Economy

Welcome to the Sustainability Week edition of LUSEM's Meetingpoint Ljusgården. PhD student Despoina Mavroudi explores the unintended consequences of sharing economy platforms and whether they can still be a force for environmental and societal change.
The sharing economy was once considered as a revolutionary way to maximize resources, foster community, and promote sustainability. But somewhere along the way, things changed. Instead of a system built on trust and efficiency, we now see protesters hoping to ban Airbnb in Barcelona, gig workers resorting to theft, and e-scooters being thrown into the ocean. Have these platforms lost their original purpose, or are these acts of resistance against deeper systemic issues?
Meetingpoing Ljusgården is a series of early morning talks organised by LUSEM, where one of our researchers dives into an engaging subject. The talk is followed by a Q&A.
The talk will be held in English, and no registration is needed.
The event is part of Sustainability Week 2025, which runs between 5-10 May. Sustainability Week is an annual event in Lund organised as a joint venture by Lund University and Lund municipality. The week serves as a platform for bringing together ideas, raising public awareness and for inspiring sustainable change.
