Meetingpoint Ljusgården – Global vs national interests in research

Welcome to a talk about geopolitical impacts on research collaboration across national borders with Tommy Shih, associate professor in marketing here at LUSEM.
The geopolitical landscape is evolving rapidly, leading to higher barriers for international collaboration. Governments in leading research and innovation nations are increasingly prioritizing national interests over global cooperation. Both China and the US operate under a national interests first doctrine, reshaping the dynamics of research and innovation networks.
Sweden's recent NATO membership and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine introduce new challenges, especially in safeguarding security within the research and innovation sector. While it is both legitimate and necessary to protect national interests, the approach we take is critical. This discussion will focus on the current geopolitical landscape's threats and risks and how research actors navigate these complexities.
The talk will be in English and as always there will be coffee, tea, sandwiches and cookies and of course, good opportunities to mingle and talk to colleagues from all over the faculty.
