The workshop brought together researchers to explore the role of landscapes in shaping craft knowledge and practices, with a focus on what craft economies can teach us about building a more sustainable relationship between economy and society.
Islay, internationally renowned for its whisky-making tradition, provided an inspiring setting, and participants visited a local distillery as part of the programme.
The event is part of a growing international research network on Craft and Emerging Forms of Organizing, which spans several initiatives:
- A Standing Working Group at the EGOS Colloquium, whose 2026 theme is Recovering Heritage, Meaningfulness and Tradition Through Craft (egos.org)
- The East Asian Workshop on Craft and Emerging Forms of Organizing, held annually in Kyoto (yamauchi.net/craft-2025)
