Tova, you had been very active in the student life and LundaEkonomerna ever since you started here in Lund. This last year you stepped it up a level and became president just in time for your 30 years’ jubilee. Did everything go according to plan?
Stepping in, it was hard visualising how the year would turn out. Looking back, I am so proud with what our members have accomplished, it truly is a year for the history books!
What has been the biggest highlight?
To me, the highlights have been the smaller, unexpected, moments. But in terms of core memories, Jubilee Ball was completely surreal. Seeing all the hard work and resources actually becoming something so grand and great, is something I will never forget. After all, we are students around 22 years old, with little to no work life experience, and still they managed to do that! That is the receipt that being a learning organisation, and every day choosing to believe in our members, truly is the right thing to do!
Any tips for students thinking about joining LundaEkonomerna or to those that are members but are thinking of becoming more active?
My biggest tip is just go for it! Whether you get new hard skills, or develop your soft skills, you will grow as a person. Comparing myself now with myself three years ago, thanks to LundaEkonomerna I am a completely new person. I have gained memories and lessons that will forever be with me.
Any advice for Agnes and the new management team?
This really is a year full of learning opportunities, if you are open to it. Therefore, my best advice is to pause and remind yourselves that it is not only about the destination. This is a year that flies by in the speed of light, and doing micro pauses is crucial if you want the lessons to land and stick. And of course, to have fun!
What’s next for Tova?
I am not going very far just yet. The coming year will be spent at Handelsrätt, and most likely in some different fora here and there. After that we will see, but I am not keen on leaving Lund and LUSEM just yet!
Agnes, please tell us a little bit about yourself and why you became active in LundaEkonomerna.
I am born and raised in Skåne and I am currently studying a Bachelor’s in business administration.
I started my engagement as a marshall for vinterbalen, and my love for the union grew. I then decided to engage within the Social Committee, and later on became the Project Leader of the group. The past few years it feels like LundaEkonomerna has been my only hobby, haha!
How does one become president of LundaEkonomerna, do you run on a programme, is there a specific issue you want to put the spotlight on?
Since I decided I wanted to run for the President role it has been quite a long process. All the candidates go trough the unions Nominations Committee, which nominated me for the position to our General Council. I believe they nominated me because of my organisational and social skills, as well as the fact that I have a burning passion for this union. Additionally, I have big ambitions when it comes to keep on pushing the union in the right direction. In order to be elected you have to have a lot of experience within the union, which I see as both positive and negative.
What’s your favourite thing about Lund?
The best thing about Lund is the fact that the city feels like home, even from the first week of living here. The people are kind, the city is beautiful and the education is exceptional.
What are your expectations for the next year?
I hope to develop further as a leader and work closely together with the rest of the board to achieve our goals. I look forward to meet a lot of new people and expanding my knowledge about the amazing work that this faculty and union do.
Thank you for your time and we wish you all the best!
